After the Covid-19 pandemic, which digital transformation trends have continued, and how do they differ across countries and regions worldwide?
In this joint report, members of the Global University Associations Forum (GUAF) reflect on how digitalisation continues to change and innovate in learning and teaching, as well as how higher education institutions function
In 2023, GUAF chose to focus on the topic of digital transformation. As the pandemic-driven shift to distance learning and remote work began to recede, a central question emerged: which changes would become lasting features of higher education systems? Because of the topic’s complexity – and the need for evidence from different regions – GUAF members established a joint working group in 2024. Drawing on regional and national reports produced by each member association, the group was able to identify key similarities and differences in the global landscape.
GUAF was established in 2022 as a platform to foster systematic exchange between its members, in order to mobilise the collective capacity of universities to tackle global challenges. It brings together nine major university associations from the Americas, Africa, Asia, the Arab Region and Europe.
