On 25 April, the EUA Board appointed Marcin Pałys as one of the Association’s two Vice-Presidents.

Marcin Pałys has been an EUA Board member since 2019, and is currently serving his second term. He is a former Rector of the University of Warsaw in Poland. At EUA, Prof. Pałys is involved in a number of activities, namely in the areas of research and innovation, Open Science and research assessment reform. In the event that the President of EUA is no longer able to fulfil his duties, Marcin Pałys will serve as Acting President. His appointment follows the departure of Vice-President Paul Boyle, who completed his second term on the EUA Board in April 2025.

Prof. Pałys joins Ivanka Popović, EUA Vice-President and Treasurer, who has been a member of the Board since 2021. Prof. Popović is a former Rector of the University of Belgrade, Serbia. To date, she has been highly invested in the Association’s work on academic careers and providing support to the university sector in Ukraine, among other responsibilities.

EUA Vice-Presidents are nominated by the President and appointed by the Board. This appointment follows elections to the EUA Board, which took place during the EUA General Assembly on 10 April at the University of Latvia in Riga.
