On 4 September 2018, eleven national research funding organisations in Europe jointly published the so-called “Plan S”. Its aim is to accelerate the transition towards Open Access to research publications.
In this statement, the Association expresses its support for Plan S, especially as the initiative is in line with objectives outlined in EUA’s “Towards Full Open Access in 2020” (June 2017). In general, EUA welcomes the Plan’s ambitions to turn Open Access into reality by 2020. However, while the plan develops a bold vision for the transition, it hinges on turning principles into practice.
