QA-FIT

Quality Assurance Fit for the Future

The Quality Assurance Fit for the Future (QA-FIT) project looks at the design and implementation of internal and external quality assurance in the EHEA in order to reflect on the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) and QA provision in general. In particular, the project will reflect on if/how the ESG, as the current EHEA framework, is perceived to limit the responsiveness of quality assurance to trends and innovations in higher education, and if/how there should be more room for the development of alternative approaches to quality assurance.

The main goals of the project are to:

  • map the state of play of internal and external quality assurance in the EHEA;
  • explore how quality assurance activities address emerging developments in higher education (including activities that go beyond the focus of the ESG);
  • critically evaluate the ESG;
  • gather perspectives on the future of quality assurance in the EHEA.

EUA is leading the project’s evidence gathering and presentation stage. Data and case examples are being collected from stakeholders via surveys to the main quality assurance stakeholders (i.e. higher education institutions, students, quality assurance agencies and ministries). Analysis of these surveys will be published in a series of papers and disseminated through webinars.

Other foreseen QA-FIT activities include focus groups to discuss some of the matters arising from the surveys in detail, a final publication and policy recommendations and a final conference organised in Brussels.

The project runs from June 2022 until November 2024, and it is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme.
