The VII Academic Summit of the European Union – Latin America and the Caribbean will take place in the cities of Porto and Maia, Portugal, on October 21, 22 and 23, 2026.
This initiative is part of the process of building a Common Area of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean, continuing the path initiated in previous Academic Summits held in Santiago, Chile (2013), Brussels (2015), Córdoba (2018), Bucharest (2022), Alcalá de Henares (2023) and Bogotá (2025).
Inspired by the CELAC-EU joint declarations and the commitments made under the CELAC-EU Action Plan, particularly in the fields of higher education, science, technology and innovation, the VII Academic Summit will bring together representatives of the academic community from both regions to discuss the challenges and opportunities of bi-regional cooperation.
Thirteen years after the start of this process, the VII Academic Summit will seek to contribute to the consolidation of the Common Area of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean, through the approval of the Porto Declaration, a document that will bring together proposals and recommendations aimed at strengthening academic, scientific and technological cooperation between the two regions.
Participation in the VII Academic Summit is free and does not involve the payment of any registration fee. Travel, accommodation and other individual expenses are the responsibility of the participants. The organization covers the costs of preparation, coordination, execution and documentation of the Summit.
