Values in Transition: An Intergenerational Dialogue on Research Assessment Reform, co-organised by ALLEA as part of the CoARA Boost project, and the Global Young Academy (GYA), is a 2026 ALLEA General Assembly Satellite Event that brings together early career researchers and established scholars for an open and structured exchange on the values, priorities, and expectations that shape contemporary research assessment.
As momentum for reform of research evaluation grows globally, differences in lived experience across career stages can influence how research excellence, equity, and impact are understood and operationalised. This dialogue-focused event creates space to surface both divergent perspectives and shared concerns, recognising that generational viewpoints are shaped by distinct incentive structures, career pressures, and institutional realities.
Through facilitated discussions, participants will reflect on which values should be central to research assessment systems, how current models support or undermine these values, and where meaningful convergence is possible. Particular attention will be paid to identifying pathways towards more holistic, inclusive, and state-of-the-art research assessment approaches that support high-quality research while enabling fair career progression, diversity, and societal impact.
By fostering mutual understanding across career stages, the event aims to contribute to more coherent and future-ready research assessment reform grounded in dialogue, trust, and shared responsibility.
The workshop takes place in-person at the Staszic Palace, Warsaw. Capacity is limited so we encourage you to register early. The organisers reserve the right to accept/decline participation.
EUA Vice-president Marcin Palys is among the speakers.
