Introduction
Joint programmes are an increasingly common feature of European higher education, supported by initiatives such as Erasmus Mundus and the European Universities alliances, yet coordinating separate national accreditation procedures for each partner institution remains a significant challenge.
This webinar, co-organised by the European University Association and the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education, will introduce the European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes, a framework allowing a single evaluation or accreditation procedure, carried out by an EQAR-registered agency, to be recognised across all participating countries – removing the need to satisfy separate national criteria for each partner institution. The session is especially timely, as the European Approach is currently being adjusted alongside the ongoing of the revision of the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).
This webinar aims to help institutions understand and apply the European Approach by:
Registration for the webinar is free of charge and open to EUA members only.
The webinar will open with an introduction to the European Approach by Aleksandar Šušnjar, Director of EQAR, who will outline the rationale and key principles of the European Approach and its role in enabling a single quality assurance procedure for joint programmes across national contexts.
It will then feature two good-practice presentations.
The first, by Marjaana Mäkelä, Principal Lecturer at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, will explore the common framework developed by the Ulysseus alliance to facilitate academic collaboration across its partner universities, which explicitly builds on the European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes.
The second, by Meritxell Chaves, Secretary General of the CHARM-EU European Universities alliance, will discuss CHARM-EU’s experience with the European Approach, having undergone the process three times, and its experience of requesting the Joint European Degree Label for one of its programmes, which became one of the first programmes to receive the label.
