Initiatives to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and innovation capacity have greatly proliferated with the adoption of the Startup and Scaleup Strategy in 2025, the implementation of the ERA Policy Agenda 2025-2027 and the still-evolving plans for the next Horizon Europe programme and the European Competitiveness Fund. Amidst a concerted push to improve the transfer of research results into innovations, the EU has now proposed a European Innovation Act to bring legislative power to bear on some of the major issues still hampering knowledge valorisation in Europe.
On 22 October from 11.00-12.00 CEST, the European University Association will convene policy makers and representatives of its member universities to discuss the sector’s aims and expectations following the recent publication of the Act.
As cradles of new ideas and genuine anchors of innovation ecosystems, universities are key partners for the policy makers, entrepreneurs and civil society groups that must work synergistically towards better knowledge valorisation. From its unique vantage point, the university sector is eager to share experiences and suggestions on how the Act can leverage varied innovation practices, including for pre-commercial procurement and the valuation of intellectual property.
Therefore, this webinar will be an opportunity to learn about different pathways to commercialising knowledge and the strategies that have proven most effective in overcoming existing hurdles. Participants will also learn how to establish institutional roles and structures that help universities adapt to the growing emphasis on innovation and the ever-expanding range of opportunities stemming from it.
