The next webinar in the European University Association’s series ‘A new ERA for universities’ will explore the European Research Area’s next Policy Agenda (2025-2027). It will be held on 27 May 2025 at 15:00-16:30 CEST.
Expected to be formally adopted by the Competitiveness Council on 23 May, the new ERA Policy Agenda will follow the European Commission’s proposal for a Council Recommendation on the European Research Area Policy Agenda 2025-2027, published on 28 February 2025. Like its predecessor (2022–2024), this second ERA Policy Agenda will guide the implementation of concrete ERA Actions over a three-year period.
Drawing on the lessons learned from implementing the first agenda, the second agenda aims to strike a balance between deepening action on current priorities through structural policies and broadening the vision for the ERA through new ERA actions. The European Commission's proposal for the new ERA Policy Agenda also outlines three priority areas:
Together with a panel of experts, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the objectives and implications of the new ERA Policy Agenda, including its actions and sectoral policies, and the opportunities for universities to engage at European and national levels. In addition, EUA will present how the university sector’s involvement in the implementation of the previous ERA Policy Agenda has helped shape and influence ERA.
Registration for the webinar is free of charge and open to EUA members only.

This event is the eighth of a series of webinars to demystify the new European Research Area (ERA). The ERA Policy Agenda 2022-2024 has ended, and it is now time for the new ERA Policy Agenda 2025-2027 to continue the work. In this context, what does ERA actually mean for universities? Why should university leaders care about ERA? And how can universities get involved nationally in shaping ERA ?
The recordings of the previous webinars of the series are now available. Please note that you can access them only if you have registered for at least one of the webinars.
