Micro-credentials linked to the Bologna Key Commitments

Elena Cirlan, Tia Loukkola

Micro-credentials have attracted interest as a means to increase the effectiveness and flexibility of higher education and to provide upskilling and reskilling opportunities for the labour force.

This report, prepared as part of the MICROBOL project, examines the status of micro-credentials, explores how they are perceived by different actors, and how the existing European Higher Education Area (EHEA) tools, such as the Framework of Qualifications of the European Higher Education Area (QF-EHEA), the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), the Lisbon Recognition Convention (LRC),  the Diploma Supplement, and the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) can be used for or adapted to accommodate them.
