Funding Forum 2018: Speakers preview

05 July 2018

The university community will meet in Barcelona on 18-19 October to discuss the latest trends in funding and governance. The full programme, with confirmed speakers, has now been released.

The “Leaders’ panel”, which will explore ways for university leaders to “steer through the storm”, will feature rectors and presidents such as Mari Sundli Tveit (Norway), Francisco Mora (Spain), Petra Wend (UK) and Jurgita Šiugždinienė (Lithuania).

The master classes will provide the opportunity for participants to have exchanges with peers who will share their experience – for instance, with so-called economic impact studies and what they mean for the university sector (contributions from Flanders and Finland). Participants with a leadership role in their institution can choose to attend an exclusive session “how to become a transformational leader”, proposed by Claudia Nuss, a business psychologist who has extensive experience in supporting executives in reaching their goals.

The question of efficiency in university management and university regulatory frameworks will be a central topic on the second day, enlightened by contributions from high-level speakers such as Philip Nolan (Ireland), public and private national funders (Research Council of Norway, Rijksbank Jubileum Foundation) as well as the European Commission. The expert rooms will be opportunities to explore more technical topics with rectors and vice-chancellors (including Indriķis Muižnieks, Latvia and Julie Lydon, UK), university academics and professionals in finance and real estate management as well as the European Students’ Union.

Along with these sessions, several others will be organised as interactive debates, via roundtables and learning cafés. Join us in Barcelona, it is still time for the early-bird fee! Listen to our rapporteur, Liviu Matei, and Esa Hämäiläinen, Chairman of the Heads of University Management and Administration Network in Europe for even more reasons to attend.
