Online panel: Climate Sustainability in the Academic System - The Why and the How

15 December 2021

ALLEA, the European Federation of Academies, is organising an online panel discussion, titled “Climate sustainability in the academic system - The Why and the How”, on 1 February 2022, from 15.00 CET.

The virtual event will offer a preview of the report that the ALLEA Working Group Climate Sustainability in the Academic System is preparing on the topic. This presentation is followed by a panel discussion, built around two driving questions: why is it necessary to work towards climate sustainability in the academic system, and how can this be achieved without sacrificing research excellence nor diminishing international collaboration in the process?

Henriette Stoeber, EUA Policy Analyst, will be present at the event as a panellist. Nina Marsh, Head of the Internal Audit & Sustainability Management unit at the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation (AvH), and Carly McLachlan, Director of Tyndall Manchester and Associate Director of the ESRC Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformation, will also be present as speakers. Astrid Eichhorn, the chair of the ALLEA Working Group, will moderate the discussion.

During the final part of the event, participants will be invited to join one of the three different thematic break-out sessions: Universities & University Networks, Students & Individual Researchers and Funding Organisations. These sessions will allow those who are interested to meet each other, exchange ideas and to network.
