Call for papers: 8th international research conference “Faces of war”

The conference “Faces of war” is an event that has been organised by EUA member University of Łódź, Institute of History, since 2017 and is attended by over a hundred participants every year. This year’s conference will be held on 1-2 June 2023 and the topic will be “War and Society”. The call for papers is now open.

Proposed issues

• war damage and reconstruction
• migrations and demographic losses
• health effects of wars
• the impact of wars on culture and art
• cultural and religious conflicts
• changes in social structures
• the impact of wars on army and military
• archaeological study of battlefields and burials of conflict victims

Chronological range

• from antiquity to the present day

Preferred scientific disciplines

• interdisciplinary conference

Duration of speeches

• 15 minutes

Languages

• language of speeches: Polish, English, Ukrainian
• language of presentation: English and language of the speech (bilingual presentation)

• on-site (Institute of History, University of Łódź, ul. Kamińskiego 27a, 90-219 Łódź, Poland)
• online (on the MS Teams platform)

• 400 PLN

• Payment deadline – from 5 April to 7 May 2023

The organisers can fund a limited number of grants for the international researchers. This could include waiving the conference fee for the online participants or providing the accommodation in the University Training and Conference Centre. Travel costs or accommodation in other locations could not be covered. Researchers interested in obtaining the grant should get in touch with the organising committee by e-mail (obliczawojny@uni.lodz.pl ). Online participation for listeners is free of charge.
