Universities UK's International Higher Education Forum (IHEF) - Online

24 February 2021

On 13-14 April 2021, EUA member Universities UK International will hold their flagship conference, the International Higher Education Forum (IHEF).

It will bring together higher education professionals from around the world to engage on topics such as the UK’s exit from the EU, Covid-19 and the climate emergency. The conference will be held online, with networking opportunities for all.

The opening plenary, which will set the tone for the conference, will see two speakers - The Rt. Hon Lord David Willetts, President, Resolution Foundation, and Katherine Flemming, Provost, New York University - take opposing positions in a heated debate: has everything changed or has nothing changed

Dr Michael Spence, President and Provost, University College London, Adam Habib, Director, SOAS University of London, and Professor 'Funmi Olonisakin, Vice President and Vice Principal, King's College London, will join the debate - chaired by Phil Baty, Chief Knowledge Officer at Times Higher Education.

Will the Covid crisis fundamentally reshape international higher education, with universities resetting and rethinking their internationalisation strategies, or are the effects of the pandemic temporary, with universities returning to previous international activities as soon as the crisis is considered to have passed.

Other headline speakers include:

  • Michelle Donelan MP, UK Minister of State for Universities
  • Professor Sir Steve Smith, International Education Champion to the UK
  • Professor Stephen Toope, Vice-Chancellor, University of Cambridge
  • Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President, Chinese University of Hong Kong
  • Professor Margaret Gardner AC, President and Vice-Chancellor, Monash University.
