EUA participation in 11th Annual Strategic Leaders Global Summit on Graduate Education

21 September 2017

On 10-12 September 2017, EUA participated in the 11th Annual Strategic Leaders Global Summit on Graduate Education, a high-level global dialogue event held at the Alyeska Resort in Alaska and organised by the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS). The CGS represents universities and colleges engaged in graduate education and research in the United States. EUA has collaborated with the CGS for a number of years, notably in the framework of its Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE).

Under the heading “Graduate Education 2030: Imagining the Future”, delegates developed and debated their vision of the future of graduate education, taking into consideration the technological, demographic and global trends and forces shaping it around the world. In particular, participants considered how demographic shifts at global and regional levels, changing labour market demands, unprecedented levels of migration and rapid technological advancements affect the delivery of graduate education, and the mission of universities more generally.

EUA was represented by its Secretary General, Lesley Wilson, Professor Luke Georghiou, Chair of the EUA-CDE Steering Committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester, and Dr. Hans-Joachim Bungartz, Member of the EUA-CDE Steering Committee and Dean of the Graduate School at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
