EUA works closely with members and partners active in energy and environment research, education and innovation. The Association’s goal is to facilitate the full participation of European universities in energy- and environment-related EU programmes and to support the realisation of the Energy Union and a sustainable energy future for Europe. To accomplish this, EUA represents the university sector in EU energy and environment policy, in particular in the Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan process.
The Association conducts this work primarily through the EUA Energy & Environment Platform (EUA-EPUE) where it connects members and partners active in the field. The Platform acts as the voice of universities in domains and initiatives related to the topic and aims to strengthen energy and environment research and education by supporting policy and advocacy at the EU level. It also fosters university outreach and societal engagement in the field and facilitates networking and clustering.
These efforts are linked to EUA’s work in promoting the role of universities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the Association’s role in shaping EU research and innovation programmes.
The European Energy Research Alliance (EERA), the EUA Energy and Environment Platform (EUA-EPUE) and EIT InnoEnergy urge the European Institutions to keep sustainable energy as a top priority in the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (Horizon Europe).
This document was presented on 1 December 2016 at the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) Conference in Bratislava, Slovakia. More than 300 university leaders contributed to the vision, objectives and actions outlined in the document.
The Roadmap was developed by EUA, through its European Platform of Universities in Energy Research & Education (EUA-EPUE), and KU Leuven, which represents the universities in KIC InnoEnergy, in the context of the UNI-SET project.
