Working Groups and Steering Committees

EUA establishes working groups, steering committees and task forces to guide its initiatives in specific areas where high-level expertise is needed. These include research and innovation policy, doctoral education, learning and teaching and digital transformation.

Learning & Teaching Steering Committee
This steering committee oversees EUA’s activities in the field of learning and teaching, specifically the EUA Learning and Teaching Initiative and the European Learning & Teaching Forum. It is composed of eight members, including a chair appointed by the EUA Board and one student appointed by the European Student Union.

EUA Council for Doctoral Education Steering Committee
This steering committee manages the activities of the EUA Council for Doctoral Education. This includes preparing the annual work programme, identifying topics of interest for future activities and representing EUA-CDE in Europe and beyond. The EUA Board appoints members and one EUA Board member serves as an ex officio member of the steering committee.

Research Policy Working Group
The Research Policy Working Group leads EUA’s policy activities in the area of research and innovation. It serves as an advisory body to the EUA Board and Council in preparing and promoting EUA policy positions on the topic. It also maintains a regular working dialogue with the relevant European institutions and other main European stakeholders in research and innovation policy.

Expert Group on Science 2.0/Open Science
This expert group addresses the increasing complexity and implications of Science 2.0/Open Science. It guides EUA’s work on the topic with a view to support universities in a wide range of related issues such as Open Access to research publications and data, text and data mining and big data. The Expert Group reports to EUA Research Policy Working Group and the EUA Council.

High-Level Group on Big Deals
This high-level group works to strengthen the Open Access movement and improve transparency of costs and conditions of “big deals” with scientific publishers. It serves as a response to an increased strategic importance identified by university leadership on the costs of publishing and expenditure for access to research publications. It offers a platform for dialogue and sharing best practices.

EUA Expert Group on Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialisation
The purpose of this group is to support institutions in the implementation and follow-up of Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialisation (RIS3) and to coordinate policy input to the European institutions. The expert group reports to the EUA Research Policy Working Group and to the EUA Council.
