EUA elections

All EUA members with voting rights are invited to elect the next EUA President and new Board members on 11 April 2019 during the 21st General Assembly, which will take place at Sorbonne University in Paris. The new President and Board members will serve from 2019 to 2023.

The EUA Board consists of nine members, including the EUA President. It is responsible for the preparation and implementation of the Association’s policy, the planning of its activities and the management of its affairs. The General Assembly is composed of the representatives of all member universities and national rectors’ conferences. Only full members are entitled to vote.

The two candidates for EUA President are:

• Michael Murphy, University College Cork (Ireland), former President
• Martine Rahier, University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland), former Rector

Depending on the outcome of the election for EUA President, there are two scenarios for the Board election:

If Michael Murphy is elected as EUA President, Martine Rahier’s name will be added to the list of Board candidates. In this case, there will be 8 candidates for 6 open Board positions:
• Josep Garrell, University Ramon Llull (Spain), Rector
• Michael Jäckel, University of Trier (Germany), President
• Patrick Lévy, University Grenoble-Alpes (France), President
• Marcin Pałys, University of Warsaw (Poland), Rector
• Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, University of Rijeka (Croatia), Rector
• Martine Rahier, University of Neuchâtel, former Rector
• Mari Sundli Tveit, Norwegian University of Life Sciences (Norway), Rector
• Franceso Ubertini, University of Bologna (Italy), Rector

If Martine Rahier is elected as EUA President, Michael Murphy will remain on the Board and complete his mandate, which ends in 2021. In this case, there will be 7 candidates for 5 open Board positions:
• Josep Garrell, University Ramon Llull (Spain), Rector
• Michael Jäckel, University of Trier (Germany), President
• Patrick Lévy, University Grenoble-Alpes (France), President
• Marcin Pałys, University of Warsaw (Poland), Rector
• Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, University of Rijeka (Croatia), Rector
