Call to EUA members: celebrating 20 years of European university collaboration
Twenty years ago, members of the Association of European Universities (CRE) and the Confederation of European Union Rectors’ Conferences joined forces to create a new organisation, the European University Association. The vision was to form one representative body in Europe for all actors of the higher education sector, the universities and their national associations.
The decision itself was adopted during the Constitutive General Assembly of Salamanca on 29-30 March 2001 and EUA will celebrate its 20th anniversary with its members throughout 2021. To that effect, we welcome short video messages or written letters from the rectors, presidents and vice-chancellors from EUA members institutions, as well as vice-rectors or other colleagues who have worked closely with EUA in its various activities.
We are especially looking for testimonials of positive accomplishments universities have been able to achieve thanks to EUA, as well as their views on how they see the future of the Association. With a new strategy adopted in 2020, and EUA’s newly-published vision for the university sector in 2030, the Association is embarking on the future with ambitious objectives. We encourage every member to take the time to share their own views and celebrate 20 years of European cooperation in the university sector via a short video or a letter in the language of their choice.
We will share a selection of the videos and letters throughout the year on the EUA website and through social media, starting at the EUA Annual Conference on 22-23 April 2021, and using #EUA20years.
Deadline for participation is 30 September 2021.
Video content and length
The content is for you to choose, however, the following questions might help you to prepare your message for the EUA 20th anniversary.
- How has your university benefitted from engagement with EUA during the last 20 years?
- What are the values you share with EUA?
- How do you see the future of the Association? What are your expectations?
- What happy anniversary wishes do you send to EUA?
The video should last two minutes maximum.
Video technical details
- Language
You can submit your video in any language with English subtitles. Subtitles are not necessary for videos produced in English.
- Technical requirements
Videos can be recorded professionally or via a phone or tablet, providing the light and sound are of good quality.
- Video-recording option

Written submission
Members can also choose to send us a letter to celebrate the EUA 20th anniversary via email. A selection will be published on the EUA website and shared on social media. All languages are accepted. If possible, we would appreciate an English-language translation when written in other languages.
