Join the EUA focus group on ‘Quality assurance of student-centred learning’

The call for participation to the focus group is now closed, as maximum capacity has been achieved.

EUA is seeking EUA member institutions to participate in a focus group on the quality assurance of student-centred learning. The one-day focus group meeting will take place at the EUA office in Brussels on 6 June 2019.

A new standard for internal quality assurance systems included in the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) 2015 requires higher education institutions to assure that their education provision is student-centred and has since been a topic for discussion. A recent EUA-led study (EQUIP) showed that institutions and quality assurance agencies alike are still seeking ways to address this.

Through its work on quality assurance on the one hand, and learning and teaching on the other, EUA has collected evidence on the status of student-centred learning in universities across Europe and on quality assurance processes in place.

At the focus group, participants will receive a preview of selected findings of this work and will be able to contribute to formulating an EUA paper, which aims to demonstrate the status of developments and thus guide further debate on the topic. The participants will also have an opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about practices in other participating universities as the programme will build on small interactive groups intended to create an open exchange. To facilitate this, participants will receive key questions in advance and should be prepared to contribute actively to the discussions.

Eligible participants are:

  • institutional leaders and senior management with responsibility for quality assurance
  • representatives of EUA member universities

Participation is restricted to a maximum of 25 participants, with one representative per university admitted. Participation in the group will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis, but EUA will evaluate applications on a rolling basis to ensure geographical balance and an adequate pool of expertise in the group. In the evaluation of expertise, answers to questions about approaches to quality assurance of student-centred learning and applicants’ motivation to attend the event will be crucial. Applicants will be informed about the result of their application without delay, so they should not make any travel arrangements before receiving a confirmation of their application’s success.

The absolute deadline to register is 16 May 2019. Since applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis, however, the maximum capacity might be reached earlier, in which case the application system will be closed before the deadline. We therefore highly recommend applying as soon as possible.

Applications should be submitted using this online form.

Participation is free of charge, but members of the Focus Group are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. The working language of the group will be English.
