    The 2017 TRENDS survey, aimed at providing a comprehensive overview of the most important developments in learning and teaching in European higher education, is open until 12 May.


    Representatives from institutions in the Western Balkans are invited to complete a short questionnaire on local research capacity, which is part of a study funded by the European Commission through the SPHERE project (Support and Promotion for Higher Education Reform Experts).


    On behalf of the European Research Area Steering Group Human Resources and Mobility (ERA SGHRM), the European Commission has launched a survey on rewards, education and skills needed to promote Open Science.


    This week, EUA renewed a crucial and timely European-wide dialogue on the importance of university autonomy. Its Annual Conference, “Autonomy and freedom: The future sustainability of universities,” underway at the University of Bergen in Norway, marks ten years of EUA work on the topic. This debate comes at a pivotal moment as there is an increasing tendency of national governments to interfere in university autonomy and academic freedom.


    During this week’s meeting in Bergen, Norway, the EUA Council approved seven new membership applications.


    EUA members – gathered at the University of Bergen on the occasion of the General Assembly and Annual Conference on “Autonomy and Freedom: the Future Sustainability of Universities” – express their deep concern and shock at the adoption on 4 April 2017 of legislation intended to shut down the Central European University (CEU), one of EUA’s long-standing members.
